Work out to stay up

At our bodies’ peak, muscle accounts for 45 percent of our total weight. As we age and become inactive, we lose muscle and coordination, so falls become more common. Studies show that elderly people who exercise regularly fall less often. Probably the best way to avoid falls later in life is to maintain a good level of physical activity throughout life. An elderly person who is in relatively good health should should participate in individual and supervised programs of physical activity designed to maintain muscular strength, endurance, and aerobic fitness.
